Have you ever felt like you are starting to fall apart. Every time you hear that notification ding on your phone signalling a new email, you start to stress. Instantly thinking you have done something wrong.
You are not alone.
Let me tell you a story about Sam.
On the outside Sam had it all together. Sam was a great worker, a friend you could always rely on and as a partner never once did she forget an anniversary, birthday or an important event in your life. But on the inside Sam felt like she was falling apart.
Sam couldn’t stop worrying. “What have I done wrong” – constantly circled inside her head. And so she tried even harder to do things for others to make them happy. But she wasn’t happy. Sam was exhausted. She was tired of constantly wondering what she had done wrong.
But just like they say in the event of an emergency you must fit your own oxygen mask first. The same applies here.
IF YOU WANT OTHERS TO BE HAPPY – YOU NEED TO BE HAPPY FIRST.
You need to make sure that you are filling your cup and then you will be able to do the same for others.
Sam, forgot all about this. And for years she wanted to be so much to everyone else that she forgot about herself. She forgot about what made her happy. Instead as the years went on, instead of trying to make herself happy she instead started to worry about what she could do to make others happy – because then they would make her happy. Isn’t that how it works?
But do you know what happens when you give all of yourself to everyone else and no-one does the same for you. You start to resent others.
YOU START TO WONDER WHAT YOU HAVE DONE WRONG THAT NO-ONE WANTS TO DO THE SAME FOR YOU.
So you try harder and harder. Until, eventually there is nothing left.
But this isn’t anyone else’s fault.
The only person who:
- needs to change is you.
- has to stand up and take back control is you.
- can and who is responsible for making you happy is you.
So stand up and take back your happiness!
